Terry Gannon Jr. was an All Star softball player until life threw her a couple curve balls: a baby, a lost college scholarship and a loser for a husband. After striking out on her own, Terry and her son Danny move in with her estranged father, Terry Sr. aka "The Cannon," an opinionated, beer-guzzling, ex-athlete who never quite made the cut as a single father or professional baseball player. When Terry reluctantly offers to coach Danny and a group of other athletically-challenged hopefuls, her past comes rushing back.

A divorced single mom and former softball all-star decides to coach her son's baseball team of misfits after they're rejected by the local Little League hierarchy, and gets help from her grizzled, beer-guzzling father, a once-promising ballplayer with whom she's forced to live after being estranged for years.
Terry looks for a job so she can move out of her father's house. Meanwhile, the Cannon tries to cure the Angles of their fear of getting hit by a pitched ball by taking them to a prison for some unconventional instruction from the warden; and a bedroom and bathroom in the Cannon's house go mysteriously unused.
Terry wonders if her dad had a girlfriend he might be more pleasant to be around and nicer to the team. Meanwhile, Danny goes on a mission to tell Vanessa how he feels about her.
Danny gets advice on girls from the Cannon, who tells him that bad boys have better luck with women. Meanwhile, Terry has a girls' night out with Lulu.
Terry tries dating again, but the Cannon and Dick team up to sabotage her new relationship with a guy she likes. Meanwhile, the Cannon learns that Danny has been helping other kids cheat on tests.
Danny goes trick-or-treating with the Angles, but first must devise a plan to outsmart the bullies who are scaring his teammates into submission. Meanwhile, the Cannon shows his competitive side during a visit to a cemetery; and Lulu treats Terry to an adult Halloween.
Terry looks out for Dudley when his parents forget to pick him up from practice, and she learns that they're getting a divorce. Meanwhile, the Cannon and Dick attend sensitivity training after an incident at an Angles practice.
Danny gets teased after being hit by a pitch, so the Cannon trains the Angles like a military unit to toughen them up and help his grandson redeem himself in a paintball game. Meanwhile, Terry and Lulu plan a birthday party together, which provides a unique test for their friendship.
Terry runs against Dick for league president; the Cannon takes Danny to a golf course to teach him a lesson in leadership.
Terry's Christmas plans for a family celebration are spoiled by the Cannon, who would rather spend the holiday with his old war buddies. Meanwhile, Danny and the Angles deliver a present to Terry in the form of their first win.
The Cannon is suspended by the league after his insensitivity to the kids is caught on video, so Terry tries to change her dad's old-fashioned ways and drag him into the 21st century.
Danny works with Vanessa on a school project, but her mom wishes she'd get a new partner after hearing the Cannon's foulmouthed diatribe.
A new doctor in town catches Lulu's eye, but Terry is the one who grabs his attention.
