Newly engaged Adam moves in with Jennifer, but his excitement is dampened by sobering news from Jeff, a jaded married man of 12 years, who explains how compromise works when living with a woman.

Audrey hosts a lavish party for Jeff's birthday against his will, but he goes along in order to get his "birthday deal," a secret gift Adam and Russell are eager to discover. They have their own ideas about what it could be, leading Adam and Jennifer to set up deals of their own, which Adam begins to regret after Jeff plants unsavory seeds in his mind about what Jennifer might request.

When Jeff flirts openly with Russell's 24-year-old girlfriend, Audrey challenges him to take off his ring one night and see if he can get a young woman's phone number. Meanwhile, Adam and Jennifer are jealous over mementos from each other's past lovers.

Adam buys an expensive video-game console and Jennifer makes him promise to discuss major purchases first, but Russell interferes and makes Adam question the agreement. Meanwhile, Audrey accuses Jeff of being more emotionally involved with sports teams than with her.

Adam and Jennifer plan a romantic weekend away, but a fight about their future sidetracks it. Meanwhile, Russell meets an older woman he slept with on his 18th birthday and plans on bedding her again, even though she's now 60; and Jeff and Audrey discuss having kids.

Jeff's embarrassed when Jennifer massages his neck and he's very noticeably aroused. Meanwhile, Russell tries to flirt with a teacher, but keeps getting insulted by a little bully.

In the first-season finale, Jeff doesn't want to part with his T-shirts from his college days, so Audrey finds a creative way to keep them around, but now Jeff can't stop reliving old memories. Meanwhile, Jennifer is worried that Adam is unsure about marriage.

As the second season begins, Jeff and Audrey agree to sleep in separate bedrooms after his snoring keeps her awake. Jeff makes the most of the situation by staying up later and acting like a college student.

Audrey's sister (Heather Locklear) is having marital problems and agrees to go out with Russell, which angers Audrey, who thinks Russell just wants to seduce her sister.

Jeff thinks he can solve a problem Audrey's having with a neighbor with a bold confrontation, but he only makes the situation worse.

Jeff skips a wedding to spend a night out with the guys, and Audrey worries that he'll get drunk and do something embarrassing.

Heather Locklear reprises her role as Audrey's sister Barbara, who visits and announces she's getting a divorce, which makes Russell think he has a chance with her.

Jennifer and Audrey play matchmaker with terrible results, but their efforts benefit Adam and Jeff financially.

Adam's mom visits and wears Jennifer's patience thin. Meanwhile, Jeff and Audrey learn how to entertain themselves when they are forced to live without their TV.

Adam and Jennifer go on a vacation with Jeff and Audrey, but first they have to endure a time-share sales pitch.

Adam begins to regret hiring Jennifer to freelance for his company when he realizes that business and romance don't always mix well. Meanwhile, Jen gives Jeff and Audrey a fertility idol that Jeff believes is responsible for his increased virility.

In the second-season finale, Jeff buys the Camaro that he's always wanted. Elsewhere, Adam and Jennifer set a date for their wedding; and Russell allows his apartment to be used for a photo shoot for Audrey's magazine, hoping that he'll get a date with a model out of the deal.

In the third-season opener, Audrey learns Russell is a closet Broadway-musical fan, and she uses the knowledge to blackmail him for theater tickets. Meanwhile, Adam and Jennifer take dance lessons.

Russell uncharacteristically hires a male assistant, but finds there are advantages. Meanwhile, Audrey volunteers to read to the elderly.

Jeff makes a new friend (Orlando Jones) at the gym and is surprised when Audrey tells him that his new friend is gay. Meanwhile, Russell suspects that the woman he's dating is his daughter.

Jeff's chauvinist father (Brian Dennehy) visits and sprains his ankle, extending his stay much longer than Audrey would like. Elsewhere, Russell's one-night stand won't leave his place.

Jeff and Audrey lie to get out of Jennifer and Adam's dinner party in favor of a better bash. Russell also attends the happening party, where he offends the wrong person---former NFL player Jerry Rice (appearing as himself).

Timmy and Audrey conspire when Timmy tires of Russell's demands and Audrey wants to dump her incompetent assistant. Meanwhile, Jeff thinks he can help the Giants win by re-creating conditions that led to a previous victory.

After being ridiculed for dozing off during a movie, Jeff asks Audrey to watch him play softball to prove he's still young.

Audrey announces at work that she's pregnant, hoping her colleagues will give her special treatment.

Russell challenges the guys to a contest determining who has it easier when it comes to convincing their respective partners to have sex.

Jeff and Audrey go to a restaurant with Brad and Jackie, and Jeff's put out when Jackie helps himself to Jeff's meal, but Audrey insists that Jeff be silent on the matter; and Russell dates a psychiatrist.

Jeff and Audrey invite their friend Steve, who's having marital problems, to stay with them, but the situation soon turns awkward when Steve becomes a bit too touchy-feely.

Audrey persuades cheap Jeff to spend money he made from a car sale and do something exciting, but she ends up regretting that she talked him into the decision.

In the third-season finale, Jeff starts to wonder if he and Audrey are missing something in their sex life.

In the fourth-season opener, one of Jeff's female colleagues flirts with him; and Russell gets Timmy to get his phone from a one-night stand's apartment.

Audrey ends up in the hospital after she and Jeff switch sides in bed and Jeff rolls over and accidentally hits her.

Brenda gets Jeff and Audrey to help cater an event at Columbia University. Audrey tries to impress the attendees, but it's Jeff's bartending skills that wow the crowd. Meanwhile, Russell enthusiastically embraces Timmy's Bollywood culture.

Jeff and Audrey join Adam and Jen's healthy cooking class, but it turns into a competition after Jen insults Audrey's cooking. Meanwhile, Timmy is freaked out by his resemblance to Russell's new girlfriend, Radha.
