In the midst of his days of feeling anxious about his childhood friend Mina Ashira, who is active as the captain of the 3rd unit of the Defense Corps, and the promise to fight monsters together, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa, a junior who aspires to be a member of the Defense Forces.

Kafka, who was parasitized by a mysterious small monster and transformed into a monster himself, escaped from the hospital with Reno, fearing that he would be defeated by the defense forces. In the midst of the transport mission, which proceeds solemnly in a tense atmosphere, Mina, who is alone with Kafka, breaks the silence.
