Above Suspicion

For eight years, someone has been murdering women, following the same brutal ritual each time. The most recent victim doesn't fit the profile, but evidence links her to the others. Anna volunteers to go undercover to crack the case.

Langton permits rookie Anna Travis to go on a date to the ballet with actor Alan Daniels, the prime suspect in serial killings involving low-rent prostitutes to gain information and mislead him.

When a dismembered and mutilated body of a beautiful young woman is found, the copycat murderer contacts a journalist to point out similarities to the infamous Black Dahlia murder in Los Angeles in 1947.

Anna becomes involved romantically with the tabloid journalist covering the murder, and an anonymous phone call leads LBangton to an aristocratic ex-army surgeon as the chief suspect in the murders.

Langton is sure arrogant, aristocratic Charles Wickenham , aided and abetted by his incestuous family is guilty of the horrific copycat murders.

In Mexico someone is having plastic surgery. On a London estate disgraced ex-cop Frank Brandon is found shot dead in a crack den and Anna,now an inspector,joins the hunt for the killer. Frank had a girl-friend but had recently married Julia Larson,a wealthy Danish woman for whom he has briefly worked as her chauffeur.

Whilst Roache admits to shooting Frank in a panic he denies killing Danny. Middle-class drop-out and user Julian D'Anton's prints are on Danny's car though Langton considers him too small-time to be a murderer. From a photograph Anna identifies Julia's ex-husband Collingwood as an international criminal and asks Sam Power to contact the FBI for details of his crimes in America,though Julia denies all knowledge,even after her accountant,Rushton,is found dead.

Julia's husband Anthony Collingwood is an alternate identity for international drug dealer Alexander Fitzpatrick, who only seems to care about his son.

Langton suspects that the reasons he lost out on a promotion to commander is affirmative action and someone resurrecting the Fitzpatrick Case. He takes on the murder of a young actress in order to resolve these questions.

Three of Amanda's lovers fall under suspicion, and Lamgton confronts Anna to find out if she is the one who cost him his promotion.

Felicity's dead body is found in the mirror and it's revealed that Jeanie Bale was blackmailing Amanda's parents with her diary.
