Whitstable Pearl

Restaurant owner Pearl Nolan discovers the body of her friend and oyster supplier chained to the anchor of his ship. The police, led by out-of-towner Chief Inspector Mike McGuire, believe it was an accident, but Pearl, who also runs a private detective agency, suspects foul play.

Working with local cop DS Nikki Martel, Mike investigates the death of a diabetic estate agent force-fed marmalade. When a woman hires Pearl to look into a large sum of cash left in her mailbox, Pearl discovers Whitstable may have a mysterious benefactor-but are they connected to the murder?

When an English Civil War re-enactment ends in tragedy, Pearl and Mike find themselves on opposing sides. Their inquiries reveal a community bitterly divided by the memory of a miner's strike and the possibility that there is more to the accident than first meets the eye.

Pearl agrees to help a woman who received a note claiming her missing husband did not die from suicide. Pearl connects the case to a grief-counseling church group and a drowning years ago. As Christmas approaches, Mike sinks into a depression, despite taking on a new flat in Whitstable.

When a mother takes her daughter out for a boat ride despite the father's wishes, the boat starts taking on water and the two need to be rescued. Was it an accident, or were they targeted? Pearl investigates while Mike tries to enjoy his time off from police duty in the days before New Year's Eve.

A 30-year-old skeleton washes up on the shore, and the victim has a very personal connection to Pearl. Pearl's budding romance with Mike is threatened when he identifies a suspect close to home.

An ex-soldier is believed to have kidnapped his son while visiting France, where the boy lives with his mother. Pearl and Mike team up to try and find the missing boy.

Mike has broken his ankle and, laid up at home, begins to be disturbed by a man in a flat opposite who has violent night terrors. Mike becomes convinced that the night terrors are a cover for him planning to murder his wife. The police find no evidence to support this, so Mike hires Pearl to investigate further. She discovers a body, but it's not the person she and Mike were expecting.

After inheriting a beloved local pub from her mother, Molly Stratton puts it up for sale to the highest bidder, rather than selling it back to the community. She turns to Pearl for help to deal with the anonymous threats she's been receiving - including a dead seagull on her doorstep. When the pub is sold, the situation takes an even darker turn.

When 1970s movie icon Zelda St John changes her will, leaving her fortune to her housekeeper, Natalia, the young woman seeks out Pearl, fearing that Zelda's family might hurt her. Not long afterward, Zelda is found unconscious at her home, attacked with a croquet mallet, and Natalia disappears. Clashing over who they believe is responsible, Mike and Pearl lead separate investigations.

Dolly notices unexplained things happening in her house: the shower being left on when she hasn't used it, money going missing and then reappearing, the radio tuned to the wrong station. Pearl fears her mother is showing early signs of Alzheimer's disease, but she hooks up security cameras to placate her. What they see on the footage leads to a surprising solution to the problem.

Pearl caters a wedding at a theme park, but the reception is marred by heated arguments and tensions among the guests - and that's before Pearl and Ruby discover the bride stabbed to death in the hall of mirrors. Mike suspects the groom, but Pearl has doubts. Worried for her welfare, Mike urges Pearl to stay out of it, but she can't resist investigating, even when it leads her straight into danger.

Photographer Izzy is knocked unconscious while taking pictures on the beach. Believing the assault is connected to the disappearance of her friend's daughter seven years earlier, Izzy hires Pearl to find out whether the missing woman has returned.

Tragedy strikes at the town's annual psychic fair when young Saffia wanders off from her nanny. As Pearl works with a psychic who claims she can feel the girl's presence, Mike and Nikki discover that Saffia must have been taken by someone she knows.

As their anniversary nears, Pearl realizes Tom plans to propose on their romantic getaway. While they're gone, a food critic visits the restaurant for a review-but drops dead after his meal. Pearl is torn between staying with Tom and heading back.

Pearl is surprised to hear a UK ringtone when she calls Charlie-he's supposed to be in Canada. As she goes looking for him in London, back in Whitstable, Mike and Nikki reexamine a 30-year-old case after the convicted man is released from prison.

On Halloween night, septuagenarian Jacob Cranage thinks he sees a body being buried on the beach. The police investigate and find nothing, but Pearl stays on the case-and soon spots evidence that there may be a missing dead body in Whitstable.

A taxi driver is shot dead in his car, and an ex-investment banker narrowly avoids an assassin's bullet. Hired by the banker, Pearl uncovers a surprising connection. Mike receives information that may help him find closure about his wife's death.
