Chrissie Williams offers him a shoulder to cry on over a drink, but it leads to somewhat more. Samantha Kennedy gets badly involved with an anorexic heart patient and her over-protective mother. Janice has to tell Danny Shaughnessy not to take too much pity on a struggling single mother, but he is also becoming increasingly involved with Marija's attempt to evade the authorities.

Danny Shaughnessy goes ahead with his wedding to Marija Ovcar, despite his mother Kath being sure it's a big mistake. Sandy Harper wangles herself the role of bridesmaid. Meanwhile, a young patient of Keri McGrath's is discovered to have had a recurrence of her cancer, while her parents argue because of their different views on religion. A woman comes into Darwin Ward with apparent appendicitis, that under surgery is found to be an infection caused by a swab left behind after a previous operation.

Owen Davis confronts Alistair Taylor about his growing relationship with Chrissie Williams, but he claims nothing is going on. A young woman is brought in suffering from advanced liver disease. A woman prisoner is also on the ward, who, when she is fully diagnosed, wants to do something that Ric Griffin is sure will give the medical ethics board a tough decision.

Tragedy strikes when Steve Waring leaves his son to look after his sick mother. On Darwin Ward, a blind man regains his sight after a relatively minor procedure on his lungs, and a cantankerous young homeless man causes problems for Simon Shaughnessy on his first day at work at Holby City, assisting Stan Ashleigh. A heart patient whose son appears not to want the burden of caring for him prompts a spat between Alex Adams & Samantha Kennedy, leading them to explore their personal experiences of caring for their fathers.

Chrissie Williams wakes up with Alistair Taylor in the Taylors' bed. Steve Waring's son is increasingly upset over his mother's death, and skips school to binge drink at home, causing Steve to have a stressful time sorting him out. On the wards, a young man is admitted with acute pancreatitis, but Tash Bandara's sympathy is more limited than the man's father's. A long-distance lorry-driver patient with a heart problem is visited by two women who each think that she is his wife. Marija has to have it pointed out to her than Danny actually fancies her.

Just before Christmas on Keller Ward, David Thomas, a young rugby player is brought in having sustained a bad leg fracture. Sandy Harper takes a fancy to him and stays late to decorate his bedside with extra tinsel. He dies during the night from complications from an unsuspected head injury. Chrissie Williams has to tell Alistair Taylor repeatedly that their affair is over. Janice Taylor finds out that she is pregnant again, but finds Chrissie's badge under the marital bed and sees husband Alistair behaving suspiciously with Chrissie. She confronts him, but he denies it sufficiently convincingly.

On New Year's Eve, Sophie, an ex-girlfriend of Alex Adams, arrives at Holby City, bringing with her a daughter he was completely unaware of. A strong-willed 77-year old, Annie Hackett, coerces Ric Griffin into doing an operation to remove part of her colon, against his advice. Simon Shaughnessy gets very drunk while still on duty, and has to be escorted off the premises by his family. Kath Shaughnessy's suspicions about Chrissie Williams and Alistair Taylor are as good as confirmed.

The health inspectors' report is far from positive, so Helen decides to question the nurses over who is responsible for gross negligence. Elsewhere, Rosie attempts to play Cupid for Mubbs, but things go from bad to worse when he invites his date to a lap-dancing club.

Jac learns a consultant's post is available on Keller.

Sam tells Maddy and Elliott he's all-clear but they're unsure he's collected his results.

Sam cannot concentrate after his diagnosis, but has to continue work due to to a staff shortage. Mark too is overstretched, and his drug habit leads to paranoia.

Mark makes a near-fatal mistake at work, but continues to deny he has a drug problem - until Chrissie finds a stash of cocaine in his desk.

Elliot is in a terrible mood after learning of James' arrest - which has repercussions for the rest of the staff when he takes it out on the already stressed STI nurse Tim.

The shootings in reception push everyone to the limit as staff struggle to treat the victims, their own colleagues among them. Amid the devastation, Elliot blames himself.

Connie struggles to cope as her daughter Grace fights for her life, and Elliot realises she needs support. Linden's odd behaviour around Chloe goes on.

Linden struggles to control his emotions when he finds graffiti on his wife's grave. Jac falls victim to a dangerous lung condition, and Elliot resigns from the charity.

Vanessa initiates an investigation into Faye's son Archie emergency hospitalization. Vanessa also introduces Judith Marchand the new surgical wards matron who manages to rub Mark up the wrong way and who recommends to Vanessa that he should be one of the AAU cuts. Elsewhere, Maddy's killer Chantelle Tanner is admitted into AAU where none of the staff want to treat her forcing Judith to deal with her where she finds that she is 16 weeks pregnant and has been kicked around by her vicious boyfriend. Archie's nurse Judith dropped his medicine labels and mixed them up with medicine meant for Chantelle and these were fed into Archie's saline drip.

Vanessa continues her investigation into Faye's son Archie emergency surgery and subsequent sudden death and discovers that Faye changed Archie's bag of saline because Lauren had forgotten to do so, a fact that Lauren was only too pleased to pass on when she found out that Ric and Connie were trying to cover it up. This ended in Vanessa suspending Ric, Connie and Faye whilst the investigation continued. Meanwhile, Maria tried to get Chantelle Tanner to confess to the murder of Maddy which she denied but it was Mark that managed to get a confession after blackmailing her with threats to care worker Adam Bowden who was also the father of her baby.

Donna received her Dad's possession which led Donna and Maria to a garage and a red Mustang. A letter also in his possessions led them to taking the car to see Patti, a friend of Derek's. But when they got there Patti had collapsed from a suspected stroke and her grand-daughter risked being taken into care. Later Patti shockingly revealed that the child, Mia, was Derek's grand-daughter and that Donna should look after her. Meanwhile, Linden compromised his professionalism by talking to Lauren about the incident that got Faye suspended. Elsewhere, witnesses were interviewed about the circumstances leading to Archie's death.

Faye buries her son and her mother persuades Joseph to let her come and stay with her to help her thought the grieving process. With Connie and Ric on extended annual leave the wards struggle to cope but in particular Elliott who is pushes to his limit by the demanding wife of a serious ill patient and the combined efforts of Vanessa and Judith who assume he cannot do the job without extra help. It leads to him collapsing in theatre with an angina attack and Joseph, who's in the hospital to find out more information on the enquiry, is asked to step in and complete the surgery. It's also Maria's first day back since her accident and in trying to do too much she nearly compromises herself. Mark finds out that Judith is going through a nasty divorce. Meanwhile, Vanessa sends out an email telling the staff that Ric's ex-wife will be the new replacement Registrar - everyone assumes it is Lola until they are introduced at a reception and the find out shockingly that it is in fact Thande

Linden goes to visit his wife Olivia's grave on the anniversary of her death but sees his daughter Holly there and leaves before she can see him. But when his mother-in-law Julia turns up at Holby to tell him that Holly has ran off with her boyfriend he can no longer avoid their tragic past and confronts Holly and finally realises he is ready to be a father to her again. Meanwhile, Oliver and Jac disagree over a diagnosis on his friend Gavin's daughter and Thandie tries to smooth over things with Elliott. Elsewhere, Penny is caught between Thandie and Elliott's war.

Joseph tries to get an early copy of Archie's autopsy report from the mortuary and neglects his job but which Elliott took notice of. But his distraction causes Joseph to tell a workaholic patient she could delay her surgery but then she took a turn for the worse and had to be rushed into theatre. This was the last straw for Elliot and he gave Joseph a dressing down. Penny gets close to her heart patient Scott, Jac continues to push Oliver hard and Linden gets Holly a temporary job on AAU.

Penny got her assessment back and was devastated when she was marked down on her relationship skills. Determined to improve she threw herself into Scott's case but lost control when his girlfriend Becca wouldn't stand by him realising too late that Elliot had seen her unprofessional outburst. Meanwhile, Joseph brought the report he got to Vanessa but she refused to act on it as it was obtained illegally. Elsewhere, Holly began working with Donna in Holby Care and finally admitted, after much probing from Donna, that her mother was killed in a car crash and that neither Linden or Holly have ever gotten over it leaving Donna shell-shocked.

Connie finds out from Terence and Mark that they have replaced Michael with Henrik Hanssen as the new Joint Director of Surgery. Connie clashes with him almost immediately. Elsewhere, Joseph begins to have the same doubts about Faye that Linden did. Meanwhile, Penny begins to stress out after being on call constantly. Hanssen meets with the staff and tells them there will be job cuts and appoints Michael as new consultant of AAU to replace Linden.

Henrik Hanssen has until the end of the day to make cuts as requested by the Department of Health and he decides that a consultant post will make the necessary cut he needs and decides on Ric. But Connie is far from happy with this scenario and asks that she tell Ric instead of Henrik. But then she decides to cut 8 nurses instead to make the savings and keep Ric on but this decision goes down badly with Elliott. Meanwhile, Michael neglects his post on AAU and focuses his time in Holby Care much to the annoyance of Hanssen.

Chrissie returns to Holby much to Sacha's delight but it doesn't turn out quite what he expected when Chrissie responds to Greg's charm. Ric's daughter Jess also makes a return and is newly engaged but is unaware of how serious Ric's condition is and they come to blows before he finally realises that he needs to take some time off to deal with his treatment. Meanwhile, Faye becomes increasingly unstable and puts herself and the baby at risk during a measles outbreak.

New locum consultant Keira Balfour manages to ruffle Jac's feathers on Keller and she takes her eye off the ball and messes up in surgery. She later falsifies the patients record to take the blame off her and put it on Chrissie. Mark later tells her she can interview for the permanent locum consultant and after a balsy interview with Mark and Hansen she is offered the job but Michael warns her of her rash decision in applying for the job. Meanwhile, Faye's stability on the ward is questioned and later at her baby shower she throws a wobbly and then becomes violent towards a patient forcing Joseph to have her committed to a baby and mother psych facility. Elsewhere, Donna's colleagues give her a taste of her own medicine.

Eager to please Michael in his bid for Director of Surgery at St. Stephen's Sheena Clore sneaks her way into Hanssen's office to get information off his laptop but Hanssen catches her via his web-cam and suspends her. She is further devastated when Michael fails to take some of the blame. Meanwhile, Sami, a young foreign national is brought in by border patrol but Elliott refuses to do the surgery he needs done as he is not covered in the UK. His mother decides to leave him thinking he will get the treatment he needs with her gone but when Oliver and Elliott re-read the scans they find that Sami has very little time and dies shattering Oliver and which underlines his own unprofessionalism. Elsewhere, Donna and the rest of the nurses take a hard line with the agency nurses, including new male nurse, Kieran Callaghan, and brings her concerns to Hanssen and the Board. Penny had a hard time trying to cover for Michael and getting him to write her AEU rotation report.

On Connie's first day back, after looking after her father, Hanssen tells her that not all on Darwin are pulling their weight indicating Elliott. Connie decides not to tell Elliott and he continues to make slip ups in front of Hanssen unknown that he is being watched until it all comes to a head when a patient learns her daughter died in an accident and Elliott had concealed the truth from her in order to get the mother into surgery. Elsewhere, Jac trying to show that she is a worthy consultant in front of Hanssen messes up big time when she goes ahead with colon surgery to remove a blockage after Hanssen tells her to stop. Meanwhile, Frieda impresses Michael when she is asked to work day shift by Penny.

Malick struggles to come to terms with the fact he is now a patient and that his career may now be over. Elliot struggles to manage new mentee Zosia when she starts carrying out psyche assessments on his patients and Sacha struggles to come clean to Chrissie about his kiss with Mo.

Harry has a difficult day when a childhood friend is admitted with a serious condition. Gemma brings her son to work once again but when he and medical drugs go missing she has to face the consequences with Ric. Meanwhile after clearing the air with Sacha, Mo tries to hide the fact she is online dating.

Chantelle faces her first day back at work after the crash. Despite looking forward to the comfort of her job she discovers her expectations were not all they were cracked up to be. Elliot has more trouble with Zosia when she interferes in one of his cases.

Malick feels as redundant as ever when his former mentor is booked into the hospital as a patient. Despite his injury it does not take long for him to start interfering on the case. Despite having booked the chapel for the vow renewal Sacha and Chrissie question if they have the commitment to make another go of things.

Chantelle faces her biggest fear when Cameron is again admitted onto the ward. When Digby confronts her with his true feelings she realises things have gone too far between them and she must leave to put it right. Mo is shocked to see her online date turn up at the hospital with chest pains. When Sacha serves Chrissie with divorce papers she turns to Michael for comfort.

When Chrissie is offered the job of Director of Nursing it forces her to take stock of her life at Holby and comes to the decision to leave her past behind and make a clean break elsewhere. Meanwhile Digby struggles to manage an increasingly erratic Malick but will he be able to stand up to his mentor?

Serena has her hands full when a major incident takes place but is later shocked to discover the new CEO, Guy Self, has arrived without her knowledge. Will they get off on the right foot? Malick is furious when he discovers Jake is working at Holby again but when a particular case takes them both to the edge he realises he must make a clean break away from Holby.

Guy attempts to put his own stamp on Holby by hiring former colleague Colette Sheward as Director of Nursing. His clean break does not last long however when he is confronted by a case from his past. Jonny tries to lighten Jac's work load but can he keep across the extra cases? Serena faces a tough task impressing Guy when a particularly difficult patient arrives on AAU.

Edward turns nasty with Mary-Claire when she threatens to reveal their affair to Serena. Guy press-gangs Elliot into performing the Herzig operation on a patient but when it doesn't go well he is left questioning his ethics. Zosia uses Arthur's obsession with Chantelle to earn herself the spare room in his flat.

Fed up following his recent heartbreak Michael breaks all the rules to perform a transplant operation for a desperate father and his son. When Guy confronts him about it he walks away from Holby after being suspended. Under pressure from her sons father Gemma makes a crucial mistake with a patient and decides to quit to focus on her son. Edward continues to sideline Mary-Claire and blames her when a machine malfunctions.

When Mary-Claire stands up to Edward and exposes him for the alcoholic bully he is can she persuade Serena to believe her. With Elliot still reeling from Zosia's revelation that Guy is her father she is determined she won't allow him back into her life following the death of her mother. But will a present from beyond the grave make her change her mind?

When Guy continues to clash with Zosia he accepts their relationship is purely professional but is that what she really wants? Meanwhile on AAU both Serena and Mary-Claire face the difficult task of picking themselves up after being fooled by Edward.

When Jac goes into labour early everyone hopes that the baby will be alright. Meanwhile Ric goes to a school reunion and meets an old flame. Has he left it too late?
